ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE FOR THE CARDINAL'S APPEAL
In one last final push to bring Assumption Church to its Cardinal's Appeal goal, our clergy will subject themselves to the Front Loader Bucket Challenge. On Sunday, September 21, 2014, after the noon Mass, come and see our priests doused with a front loader bucket full of ice water to encourage pledges to the 2014 Cardinal's Appeal. (Front Loader willingly provided by Assumption's Cemetery staff). The pleasure of pulling the leaver to dump the bucket goes to the highest bidder. Pledge forms available at the Church starting next weekend. The Cardinal's Appeal is a great charity that helps countless needed people in the Archdiocese of New York.

OUR LADY OF THE SWAN
Many of our Spanish speaking parishioners have a devotion to Mary under the title of Our Lady of the Swan (La Virgen de El Cisne). This year two priests from Ecuador will be bringing the statue. They will arrive the night of September 15, 2014. During their time here this statue will be traveling throughout the metropolitan area. For some days our own parish will be blessed to have this statue with us. On September 28, 2014, there will be a daylong celebration at the riverfront in honor of Mary under this title. The celebration will include Mass and a procession. All are welcome to come to enjoy a taste of Spanish religious devotion to Our Lady. For more information contact the rectory (914) 737-2071.

Assumption Cemetery is graced with a very unique feature not found in any other cemetery to our knowledge: our Stations of the Cross Columbarium Garden. There are only 21 niches still available. The price of a niche is $1400 - $2000, which gives you the right to inter the cremains of two people. If you have been thinking of purchasing a niche, please call Mr. John Bischoff at 914-736-5981, Monday to Friday for information and/or an appointment. For those of you not familiar with a Columbarium, it is a Latin word that describes a collection of niches to house urns containing cremated human remains. Usually inscribed with the person’s name and dates of birth and death, columbaria are constructed to serve as permanent resting places for our loved ones in a 'churchyard’ or landscaped terrace. May the Lord who has blessed this project now be a final resting place for many of our loved ones.
